Holiday Performance Showcase
December 15, 2019
Our annual Holiday Performance Showcase took place at Jack Charron Arena. Performances featured figure skating by Glen Cairn Skating Club's Academy and STARSkaters of all levels. Family and friends were welcome to come out and support the club. There was hot chocolate and popcorn, a chance to earn raffle prizes and a 50/50 draw. After the show, all were welcome to stay and enjoy a family skate. Thank you to everyone for supporting our club, and a huge "Thank You!" to Chris Butler for taking photos throughout this event!

Skate Ontario Sectional Championships
November 7-11, 2019
The Sectionals Series is for eligible athletes who are competing at the pre-novice, novice, junior and senior levels, in the men, women, pair and ice dance categories. This year we are proud to have been represented by two Glen Cairn Skating Club skaters who travelled to compete at the Harry Howell Twin-Pad Arena in Hamilton: Lucille Yang (Pre-Novice Women) and Victoria Gardner (Junior Women). On November 14, skaters showed their support for Lucille and Victoria with a cupcake celebration.
Skokie Skate
October 25-27, 2019

Mini-Seminar
September 14, 2019
Glen Cairn Skating Club hosted a Mini-Seminar to start off our 2019-20 STARSkate season with World & Olympic coaches Robert Tebby & Tugba Karademir from the Mariposa Skating School in Barrie, Ontario.
On-ice sessions took place at Jack Charron Arena and off-ice classes were held at Glen Cairn Community Centre in the Upper Hall.
Group 1 (STAR 1-4 skaters)

Boys Only Session
September 8, 2019
New this year, Glen Cairn Skating Club is offering a Boys Only Session on alternating Sundays at 10 am at Jack Charron Arena. This program got underway with Coach Jamie Britton putting the boys through some rigorous exercises.
North York Summer Skate

Glen Cairn Skating Club would like to congratulate our own Lucille Yang, who finished 2nd in the Pre-Novice Women's event at this Sectional Series competition. Way to go, Lucille!
Minto Summer Skate
July 25-28, 2019
The first competition of the season in the Sectionals Series took place at Richcraft Sensplex in Gloucester. Glen Cairn Skating Club extends congratulations to all our skaters who participated, from Pre-Juvenile through the Junior level. A special mention goes to Makya Bertrand who was presented with a gold medal for his STAR 6 performance by the legendary Don Jackson himself!
Summer Camp 2019
July 2-12, 2019
Glen Cairn Skating Club was excited to host 50 skaters from 7 clubs who came out to Train Harder, Jump Higher, Spin Faster at our Summer Intensive Training Camp. Thank you to all the skaters and their families for participating and to all the club staff and volunteers who helped to make this program a success!
Ravi Walia Skater Development Seminar
April 29-30, 2019
The Glen Cairn Skating Club welcomed Olympic & World Coach from Edmonton, Alberta, ISU, Technical Specialist and Skating Director of Ice Palace Skating Club (West Edmonton Mall), Ravi Walia to run a two-day seminar hosted by our club. Ravi Walia holds the 2013 & 2018 Skate Canada’s Coaching Award of Excellence and is the Coach of Kaetlyn Osmond, three-time National Champion, 2018 World Gold Medalist & 2018 Olympic Bronze Medalist.
The seminar was held at Bell Sensplex, with 55 skaters and 11 coaches from 13 clubs taking part.
Included in the 2-Day Seminar:
* 4 on-ice sessions (per group), focusing on edges/footwork & jumps/spins
* 5 off-ice sessions (per group), focusing on mental training, strength, stretches, flexibility & injury prevention

Skate Ontario Provincial Championships
March 7-10, 2019
Glen Cairn Skating Club would like to congratulate all nine of our qualifying skaters who traveled to Mississauga to compete at the Skate Ontario Provincial Championships. It was a great weekend of beautiful skating and you made us all very proud! A special mention goes to our podium finishers, one of whom is this year's Provincial Champion in her category. Amazing!

Special Event: Jump Development

Glen Cairn Skating Club was pleased to offer Jump Development with Marie Palladini-Hamelin, National Level Coach with our club, at Jack Charron Arena. Marie worked on jump warm-up exercises to help with balance, edge quality and rhythm in and out of jumps, while also looking at jump combos, sequences and landing positions.

Love to Skate Competition
January 12, 2019
Skate Ontario invited all eligible figure skaters to participate in the 2019 STAR 1-4 Series Love to Skate Competition hosted by Glen Cairn Skating Club.
The competition was held over the course of one full day on two ice pads at the Kanata Recreation Complex. Events included STAR 1 through STAR 4 Freeskate Events, STAR 2 through STAR 8 Elements and Team Events, as well as Solo Dance and Showcase Events.
Congratulations to all the skaters who came out to show us what they can do, and a big THANK YOU to all the many volunteers who helped to make this competition a success! Glen Cairn Skating Club has a lot to be proud of.
