A SEASON TO REMEMBER: A HISTORIC YEAR FOR GLEN CAIRN SKATING CLUB

This past figure skating season will be remembered as one of the most remarkable in Glen Cairn Skating Club history, marked by international experience, national recognition, and a milestone achievement on the Canadian stage.

The season began with a major honour: Brianna Dion and Jacob Cote were selected to Skate Canada’s NextGen Team, a recognition reserved for athletes demonstrating exceptional potential and commitment to excellence. That momentum carried forward internationally, with competition experience in Turkey, providing valuable exposure and growth early in the season.

On the national qualifying circuit, Brianna & Jacob delivered a standout performance at Challenge Skate Canada in Calgary, earning a bronze medal against a highly competitive field. The pinnacle of the season came at Brianna and Jacob's first Junior National Championships, where they delivered a poised and confident performance to claim silver. The result was historic—the first national-level medal ever earned by Glen Cairn Skating Club, and notably, the only medal earned by an Ottawa-area club at the event.

This extraordinary season reflects years of dedication, resilience, and growth, and stands as a proud moment not only for the athlete and her coaching team, but for the entire Glen Cairn skating community. It marks a new chapter in the club’s history and sets a powerful precedent for what is possible in the years ahead.

Brianna, who is a home grown GCSC skater, also competes as a singles skater at the Novice level which makes it challenging to manage & train in 2 different disciplines. She recently placed in the top 15 (6th) at the Skate Ontario sectionals in Wasaga Beach in December 2025 which qualified her to move on to the 2026 Skate Canada Trophy championships in Dartmouth, February 5-8th. Our club is very proud of her success & will be cheering her on!
